چکیده
Intergovernmental policy is targeting public ocean literacy to help achieve the societal changes needed reach a sustainable agenda within 10-year timeframe. To create culture of care for ocean, which under threat from Anthropocentric pressures, informed citizens are central upholding meaningful actions and best practices. This research focuses on recreational users, specifically surfers how their blue space activities may inform understanding processes human-ocean interconnections. The Ocean Literacy Principles were used assess awareness through surfing interactions. An online survey questionnaire was completed by 249 participants reduced smaller sample focus group. Qualitative quantitative data triangulated develop further surfer experiences, using social-ecological systems framework model outcomes. results found that indeed receive benefits, three out seven direct benefit many in group receive. By identifying synergies between Principles, variables coastal ecosystems user (surfer) interactions, this offers novel insight into opportunities integrating sustainability strategies activity mechanisms community engagement.

Science and management in four U . S . coastal ecosystems dominated by land - ocean interactions
The influence of science in the recognition of the effects of landscape changes on coastal ecosystems and in the development of effective policy for managing and restoring these ecosystems is examined through four case studies: Chesapeake Bay, San Francisco Bay, the Mississippi Delta, and Florida Bay. These ecosystems have undergone major alterations as a result of changes in the delivery of wa...

Hurricane-intensity forecast improvements currently lag the progress achieved for hurricane tracks. Integrated ocean observations and simulations during hurricane Irene (2011) reveal that the wind-forced two-layer circulation of the stratified coastal ocean, and resultant shear-induced mixing, led to significant and rapid ahead-of-eye-centre cooling (at least 6 °C and up to 11 °C) over a wide s...

متن کاملCoastal and Ocean Engineering
This course introduces maritime engineering, encompassing coastal and ocean engineering. It concentrates on providing an understanding of the many processes at work when the tides, storms and waves interact with the natural and human environments. The course will be a mixture of description and theory – it is hoped that by understanding the theory that the practice will be made all the easier. ...
